International Residency 2027

"International Applied Theatre Residency – Goa, India (15–26 February 2027)"
First International Virtual Conference

About Applied Theatre India Foundation:

The International Applied Theatre Residency 2027 is a 12-day immersive, residential, practice-based programme hosted in Goa, India and organised by the Applied Theatre India (ATI) Foundation.

Designed for applied theatre practitioners, students, educators, researchers, social workers, and arts professionals from across the world, this residency creates an intensive intercultural learning space grounded in practice, reflection, and ethical engagement.

Participants will engage in hands-on workshops, collaborative labs, community interactions, reflective circles, and cultural immersion experiences. The programme follows a Practice – Reflection – Application learning cycle and introduces diverse applied theatre methodologies including Theatre in Education (TIE), Forum Theatre & Theatre of the Oppressed, storytelling practices, and embodied facilitation tools.

Set in the culturally rich and globally connected context of Goa, the residency offers more than classroom learning. Everyday encounters with local communities, heritage sites, and living traditions become part of the extended classroom, deepening intercultural understanding and context-responsive practice

With a carefully curated cohort of 20–30 international participants, the residency aims to:

  • Strengthen applied theatre facilitation skills
  • Develop replicable session plans and intervention models
  • Encourage ethical and reflective practice
  • Foster intercultural dialogue and global collaboration
  • Build sustained international professional networks connected to India

By the end of the residency, participants leave with documented tools, refined facilitation frameworks, collaborative project ideas, and a strengthened global network in applied theatre
